Denmark receives daily Swedish night trains to Germany

From September, SJ, the Swedish equivalent of DSB, runs daily night trains from Stockholm with stops at Copenhagen Airport and Odense to Hamburg. The trip from the two terminals takes 13 hours.

Swedish SJ, Statens Järnvägar, will premiere on 1 September on its new, daily and year-round night train route between Stockholm and Hamburg. From the same day, SJ will also start driving the opposite way, from Hamburg to Stockholm, also with stops at Odense and Copenhagen Airport.

The train departs from Stockholm at 17.34, there are a number of stops through Sweden before the train arrives in Malmö at 22.40. From here it continues at 23.33 towards Copenhagen Airport with arrival just after midnight, the next stop is Odense at 01.57 and it then arrives at Hamburg Altona railway station at 06.35.

From here, for example, passengers can continue by train to the rest of Europe. Altona Train Station is six kilometers from Hamburg Central Station.

When the night train runs the opposite way, it departs from Hamburg Altona at 21.155 and arrives in Odense at 01.54, arriving at Copenhagen Airport at 03.46 and the train is in Stockholm at 09.55.

Four overnight classes - no WiFi
The night train does not offer Wi-Fi, according to SJ's website.

Here it is also stated that the night train has four passenger classes. Prices are dynamic, depending on demand, but SJ provides these price examples, from Stockholm to Hamburg and vice versa.

The most expensive is a sleeping car 1st class - with room for up to three people and with shower and toilet in the cabin. Prices start at just over 200 euros, about 1,500 kroner, for a single trip.

Sleeping car 2nd class has room for two people in the cabin and with a shared toilet in the train car. Starting price is 80 euros per person, the whole cabin costs 165 euros.

Stroller 2nd class has two types of cabin, with room for up to four or six people. The whole compartment costs 249 euros and 45 euros per person for a single ticket.

The cheapest is a 2nd class stroller, where the compartments can accommodate up to five people. The whole cabin costs 85 euros, while the price is 25 euros per person.

The night train route itself runs SJ in collaboration with Hector Rail, whose locomotives pull the train between Malmö and Padborg at the Danish-German border.
